The Detroit Tigers defeated the Houston Astros 3-1 in Game 1 of their AL Wild Card series. The Tigers are in the MLB playoffs for the first time in ten years, after clinching the 6th seed in the MLB Playoffs.

The Tigers took an early lead against Houston starting pitcher Framber Valdez with a three-run second inning, with RBIs from Jake Rodges, Trey Sweeney and Matt Vierling. The Astros attempted to comeback with the bases-loaded in the bottom of the 9th, but only scored one run in the 9th.
